Meredith Hall, PLA, ASLA in

Meredith’s community-centered design practice is inspired by her own Duwamish Valley neighborhood, where she has accumulated years of experience with the personal, political, environmental, and social challenges in and around Seattle’s only river. Her knowledge of these complexities of place inform an elegant synthesis of landscape solutions to fortify a deeply-connected community. Blocks from her house, South Park Plaza is a celebratory and deliberately joyful, inclusive event space, and, just upriver, the South Park Pump Station’s landscape hosts a secret riverside garden that uses art and native plants to create a perfect place to take a workday breather.

Meredith’s impassioned ethos can be seen in her work throughout the Puget Sound and beyond. On downtown Seattle’s waterfront, the Habitat Beach offers a dramatic stage to touch the water and watch the setting sun, and Winthrop’s “outdoor library” invites visitors to explore literary worlds while learning the elements of FireWise landscaping. Meredith’s family navigates the city by bike, they love to cross country ski, and she’s always doing something in her garden, all of which influence her designs – from streetscapes and rooftops for multi-family mixed-use housing, to retrofitted industrial sites and a reinvigorated historic garden on Vashon Island. She is a pragmatic problem solver who loves collaborating with other professionals to deliver high quality, durable projects that enhance the lives of the people who live with them.
