Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA

MxM team members collaborated with an internationally distributed design team on this new 800 hectare campus located north of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The campus hosts approximately 40,000 students across 13 new colleges including: nursing, pharmacology, naturopathy, administrative sciences, computer science & technology, nursery training, languages and translation. The overall design respects the region’s traditional principles of garden design and adapts them into a contemporary framework that focuses on sustainability and the pedestrian quality of the outdoor space. From conceptual design through full design development, MxM team members focused on the integration of landscape within and around student housing. Topography is manipulated to create a cohesive sequence of human-scaled outdoor spaces, while distinctive planting schemes for each courtyard enhance the sense of arrival for students returning to their dormitories.
