Is it possible to restore a community’s civic, economic, environmental, and physical health by rethinking the highway that bisects it? That’s the question that the Reconnect South Park coalition has been asking since 2022. As a technical member of the community team, MxM has helped the South Park community study what the landscape currently dominated by asphalt could be by imagining different options, reviewing technical analyses, and meeting with key stakeholders. Part technical translators (“What is VMT?”), part engagement advisors, and part storytelling strategists, our work has helped advance the options available to the South Park community so that they are empowered to envision and implement the best future for generations to come, the land, and the Duwamish River.
