Is it possible to restore a community’s civic, economic, and physical health by rethinking a highway? That’s the question that the Reconnect South Park coalition has been asking since 2022. As a technical member of the community team, MxM has helped the South Park community study what could be in South Park by beginning to imagine different options, reviewing technical analyses, and meeting with key stakeholders. Part technical translators (“What is VMT?”), part engagement advisors, and part strategists, our work has helped advance the options available to the community in the on-going work to imagine a better future for the predominantly immigrant community that was diagonally bisected during the 1960s highway building boom.
