Shilshole Bay Marina

SEATTLE, WA

Shilshole Bay Marina is the largest of Seattle’s marinas, with 14 ares of waterfront spanning a mile of Puget Sound’s edge. The site underwent a $70 million renewal that features a series of new public plazas linked by a continuous esplanade and major landscape improvements. Scott developed the plaza designs in close collaboration with the architecture team, civil engineer, and public artist.

The Marina Plaza is the largest public space on the site. Honey locust groves with lush underplantings reference the native shoreline, bookending a combined retail and office building while providing a buffer from the adjacent street. Bands of paving extend from the architectural module, connecting indoor and outdoor spaces. An arc traverses these bands and collects rainwater in an illuminated trench drain. The public art water feature activates a gathering area at the building’s primary entrance.
